Argon 18’s Year in Review: 2022
We take every opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Argon 18’s family of athletes. As we start a new season, we’ve reflected on some of the highlights of 2022. Here’s a look back at some of the performances that had us cheering all year long.
Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s only all-diabetes pro cycling team, had another strong year with standout performances abord the Sum Pro at the 100th anniversary edition of the Classique Paris-Chauny, the Tour of Slovakia, and the Maryland Classic. The team took a win at the GP Kranj in Slovenia and stage wins and podiums at the Tour of Hellas, International Rhodes Tour, Tour of Rwanda and Tour of Bulgaria.
Also on the road, Project Echelon had a standout season that saw GC victories in US stage races including the Tucson Bicycle Classic, Redlands Bicycle Classic, Valley of the Sun and Green Mountain Stage Race. Always strong on the crit circuit, the team swept the individual categories and finished second in the team standings at the American Criterium Cup. But perhaps the biggest highlight for the team is their move to UCI Continental status for 2023.
On the track, Cycling Canada had a great showing at the 2022 UCI Track World Championships, with a rainbow jersey for rider Dylan Bibic. Australia also rode Argon 18’s Electron Pro to gold in the team sprint. The success carried over to the Champion’s League with a second place in the women’s sprint for Team Canada’s Kelsey Mitchell and third for Maggie Coles-Lyster.
In triathlon, Joe Skipper took on the Pho3nix Sub7 at short notice and went on to break the seven-hour barrier and also post a blistering 3:16.24 bike leg on his E-119 – with the help of an eight-man pace team. His season also included a victory at IM Arizona and a strong fifth at the Kona World Championships. Argon 18 triathlete Ruth Astle capped her season with a victory at IM Israel and took fifth at the IM Championships at St. George.
Endurance and gravel racing were highlighted by Mark Beaumont’s victories at the GBDuro and GBC500 on the Dark Matter, and his record-setting 28 hour and 35 minute ride of the NC500 with the E-119.
To all of our Argon 18 athletes, we’re always proud to see you aboard Argon 18 on the road, circuit, trail and track, and can’t wait to cheer you on in 2023!
