Tissot UCI Track Nations Cup 2023, Milton, Ontario – Race Recap
Argon 18 was in Milton, Ontario for the Tissot UCI Track Nations Cup from April 21-23, where more than 300 athletes from 50 countries took part in the third Cup of the 2023 circuit. Argon 18 is very proud to power some of the top riders and partner with some of the top Federations in the world, including Canada, Australia, Poland, Ireland, Belgium, and Mexico. With many of the world’s top riders on Argon 18 bikes, we had the pleasure of seeing the entire podium filled with Argon riders for the women’s team sprint as Mexico, Canada and Poland took the gold, silver and bronze!
Cycling Canada impressed the home crowd aboard their Argon 18 Electron Pros. With three medals and many personal bests, the team looked to rack up some all-important Olympic qualifying points. The Canadian women’s pursuit and sprint teams provided the first two medals for Canada. On the sprint side, Olympic medallists Kelsey Mitchell and Lauriane Genest joined Sarah Orban to take silver. The pursuit team of Sarah Van Dam, Maggie Coles-Lyster, Ariane Bonhomme and Erin Attwell took bronze in the team pursuit.
Canada’s third medal was gold, courtesy of Kelsey Mitchell in the women’s sprint. Said Mitchell after the highly tactical race: “I really think I learned a lot and used the track properly. I want to take this momentum in the training block going forward into Worlds to hopefully get more points for Olympic qualifying.”
Other Team Canada highlights included scratch World Champion Dylan Bibic and Olympian Michael Foley finishing 11th in the Madison, one of Canada’s top results in the event, and two top-ten finishes in the women's omnium with Maggie Coles-Lyster in seventh and Sarah Van Dam in 10th.
AusCycling had a great showing with gold in the men’s team sprint and men’s keirin, silver in the men’s elimination race and bronze in the men’s sprint. Argon’s Electron Pro was also ridden to victory for Belgium in the women’s Madison, while Poland took silver in the men’s sprint and Mexico took bronze in the women’s sprint.
Argon 18 fans also had a chance to see our track bikes up close in our booth – something very appreciated, as track fans usually only see them from a distance… and moving very fast! Altogether, we were very proud to support our family of athletes and cheer them on to victory in Milton.
